What mom doesn’t like to hear phrases like,
“You are such a great mom!”
“You are such a fun mom!”
“Your kids are so lucky to have a mom like you.”
“I love your mom!” (Said from your kid’s friends.)
All those phrases make us feel so good about ourselves and for that brief moment we think, “I AM a great mom!”
BUT… the days when we are less than perfect, the days when we feel like we aren’t living up to other’s expectations, the days when we are so tired that dinner is take out and the kids put themselves to bed…those are the days we think we are failing at being the “best mom ever”.
Momma, can I let you in on a little secret? You ARE a great mom! You are the “best mom in the world” and you deserve the “best mom award”! Stop trying to live up to other’s expectations, or perceived expectations.
Those “Pinterest moms”, the “perfect picture Facebook moms”, the moms we see at church who “have it all together”… they have bad days too! Ask them how many outfits they put on that morning since the baby puked all over them. Ask them how many pictures they took until they got the “perfect” one. Ask them how long it took them to put that “perfect pinterest party” together.
Ask another mom if they ever feel alone.
Ask another mom if they ever feel like they are failing.
Ask another mom if they ever feel inadequate, underappreciated, or FEARFUL!
You are a great mom! Do you know how I know that? …because our worth and our value doesn’t come from our feelings or others expectations or percieved expectations. Our value as a mom comes from the One who made us a mom.
How does God see you?
He sees you tired and still trying.
He sees you doing everything you can to get your kid to bed at a good hour so they aren’t grumps tomorrow.
He sees you choosing the burnt bread so your family can have the best pieces.
He sees you cleaning, wiping, and organizing all the same things you cleaned and wiped yesterday.
He sees you helping with homework and packing lunches.
He sees! He knows your worth and your value! He is the One who determines that YOU ARE A GREAT MOM!
Stop trying to live up to other’s expectations of what a “GREAT MOM” looks like. YOU ARE THE BEST MOM EVER! Let people say it to you and believe it! Say it to yourself! He believes it! Trust Him!
… and tell other moms that they are GREAT too!
