Letters to my girls, Momma

Dear Class of 2022

While your parents may be the loudest applause tonight, as you walk across the stage,  THIS momma is silently remembering your soccer games, baseball games, field trips, class parties, and you being in our home, many nights, celebrating our girls lives.

Your graduation from high school may feel bittersweet, but this is not an ending. This is a beginning! You can’t start something new, if you don’t end something.

My wish for the class of 2022 is that you “Be a beginner!” Sometimes we look at beginners with frustration and stress. No one likes to be called “a beginner”. Who wouldn’t just love to skip over all the lessons and be an expert?! Being a beginner is unavoidable and it is part of growing into the person we are meant to be.

Embrace being a beginner! You haven’t experienced everything yet. You might be starting at college, or beginning your new career…You won’t know how to do it all and that’s ok. That’s what this next stage is all about. Explore the world. Take on new challenges. Try new things. Give yourself grace when you fail and try again. Failure is only considered “failure” when you give up.

Take the next step. You may not know where God is leading. You may think you have to figure out what you are supposed to do with your life. God has brought you this far, let Him keep leading. Sometimes our lives don’t come together when we want them to. Just keep going and do the best at what you have right now, until God shows you something else. Do the next thing in front of you, and then keep going! Trust the God who has equipped you for this next step, will be faithful to “complete a good work” in you. (Philippians 1:6) You just have to show up!

Acknowledge your limitations.  Cling to the One who knows your future.  Take small steps everyday, and take the big leaps with caution and guidance. Allow trusted people to come along side you and don’t FORGET TO CALL YOUR MOMMA once in awhile!

Thank you for being involved in our girl’s life for so many years.  Thank you for being an encouragement, a friend, a study buddy, a late night video gamer, and maybe even that one “sparring partner”.  All of you had a role to play in her growth and this Momma thanks you.

Some of you, I’ve known since kindergarten. Others of you have become new friends to my girl, and you feel like family. (The 4 horsemen!) No matter how long you’ve been in our lives…

…as your name is called tonight, while your parents are your cheering squad, just know this Momma will be rooting for you on the sidelines!

Congratulations Class of 2022!
